For all my models, I start by building the block-out meshes, keeping the shapes clean and low-poly, often using reference images found online. I then move on to refining the model by adding details and developing the forms further.
Finally, I create the textures — simpler ones directly in Maya or Photoshop, and more complex ones in Substance 3D Painter.
